A wet towel + an empty toilet bowl = a life lesson. And yes, the best ideas still emerge from the bathroom

I hung my towel on a rack, and just before stepping out, my eyes did a last minute scan of the bathroom.   And it caught the open toilet bowl

A cursory glance inside.. Then I smiled.  The molds were diminished….you could barely discern anything left inside the Waterhole

For some weeks back there, my skin cringed as I watched the mold accumulate inside that bottom of the bowl.  In addition to the limescale I was contending with

You see, because the city of Portsmouth stands on chalk and limestone, it has one of the UK’S hardest water.

Water so hard that limescale inhabits freely inside every appliance and surface and jeers at your chagrin

Now, to that picture, add the fact that the United Kingdom holds a major in condensation and molds

The limescale inside the toilet, I ignored as vinegar, baking soda, mold remover et al seemed to be losing the war.  This was not a cake – it seemed like cured cement

Then one day, I noticed the molds.

Noooo, I screamed silently, I can’t deal with this extra”

Nevertheless, as my personality borders on an ‘OCD’ of cleanliness, I have not fully developed that superhuman ability to overlook dirt.

So I spent a miserable few weeks staring into the bowl each time.

Self-preservation should teach you to take your eyes away from there, right?  Not mine. My self-preservation skill  instead focused on removing and restoring

Last Friday I had a guest. And all it took was one statement to unlock the key

“Amara, these molds have a mind of their own, it is crazy at my house and I have given up. You guys have to get used to them”

Guest

My OCD yelled and kicked silently…..get used to what?

I have no idea how the idea dropped or when.  But I recall picking up the mold remover bottle to spray inside it again and stopped

“What’s the point again? Not been of much help so far”

And my eyes went to the two packs sitting silently inside the same basket.

A very cheap product – less than £1- I purchased sometime ago at Home Bargains and which works wonders on our appliances. Stress-free too – pour inside hot water, give it some minutes, wash with sponge and bingo!

The magic wand

How will this work in the toilet if the water will simply run down the drain before it gets the chance to do the work?  I reasoned

Yet, I poured one satchet in.  Went back later.  A few brush strokes showed an improvement. I tried again days later. Like magic, even the limescale had dissolved together with the mold.

Need I tell you that I feel better since then?

Therefore, it was that as I hung the towel and made to step out, I peered inside the bowl and smiled at the waterline

Then I heard inside my head…..

And you had the right tools all along

Toolkit

Ouch! That was no tap on the shoulder – it was a knock on the head.

I had the right tool all along,.to resolved the issue yet I suffered in silence

Immediately, an image of the prophet Moses (Moshe, Musa) came to mind……guy was standing there making excuses that he had nothing for his encounter with the Pharoah

It took God to point out the rod in his hand. And it’s capacity.

That lesson hit home so much that I thought of you, dear reader, right away. And picked up my phone to share

“Dear Reader, what tool do you have in your hand already while the mold festers in your space?”
